SmogCon this year was a real blast! Had an absolutely fantastic time, and caught up with a few friends from last year. I spent most of my time in the Iron Arena, getting in casual games, though I did foray into the Newbury Suite in the evenings for some non-wargaming fun.
Following a last minute change of plans with the lists (due to Theme Force lists no longer getting bonus points in Iron Arena), my updated SmogCon list rotation can be found below:
50 Points | 35 Points |
(1) Blood of Heroes (T4) Vlad 2 Obj: Arcane Wonder |
(2) Blood of Heroes (T4) Vlad 2 Obj: Arcane Wonder |
(3) Winters Wind (T4) Zerkova 2 + Reaver Guards Obj: Effigy of Valor |
(4) Winters Wind (T4) Zerkova 2 + Reaver Guards Obj: Effigy of Valor |
(5) Full Assault (T4) Sorscha 2 Obj: Armory |
(6) Full Assault (T4) Sorscha 2 Obj: Armory |
(7) Butcher 3 + War Argus Obj: Bunker |
(8) Butcher 3 + War Argus Obj: Bunker |
Make note of the number of each list as they are referenced below in my SmogCon game log š
Day 1:
Game | List Used | Opponent Name | Opponent Faction | Scenario | Win/Loss | Notes |
1 | 7 | John | Retribution of Scyrah | N/A | Win, Assassination | Thanks to Zephyr, Aiyana got close enough to Kiss Ossyan and Holt shot him off the table. |
2 | 4 | Martin | Cryx | Close Quarters | Loss, Assassination | I failed an assassination attempt (messed up my order of activation for Zerkova’s feat turn), and got counter-assassinated. |
3 | 1 | Lee | Skorne | Fire support | Loss, Assassination | Bronzeback 2-shot Vlad. |

On the Friday evening, I played through Chapter 4 of The Undercity and had a great time š Unfortunately I forgot to make a note/remember the names of my follow Irregulars š On the plus side though, I had such fun that I have a copy of the game heading my way, and I am now backing the Widowers Wood kickstarter…
Day 2:
Game | List Used | Opponent Name | Opponent Faction | Scenario | Win/Loss | Notes |
4 | 5 | Anthony | Cygnar | Fire Support | Loss, Assassination | Stryker 2 rolled 12 for extra strength, and failed to blow himself up… |
5 | 3 | Jun | Skorne | Fire Support | Win, Assassination | Zerkova 2 lived the dream in turn 2, after the Incindiarii and Molik removed *all* the Outriders. |
6 | 7 | Dave | Cygnar | Close Quarters | Win, Assassination | Nemo 2 got butchered. Opponent quoted “Shit, I didn’t know Butcher could do that!” |
7 | 3 | Jukka | Cryx | N/A | Lost, Assassination | Got counter-counter-assassinated. Mortenebra has steady (so wasn’t knocked down from Marauder slam), and I forgot to do my initial sprays with Outriders after moving them up, leaving her on 4 boxes after feat turn. |
8 | 3 | David | Cryx | Close Quarters | Lost, Assassination | I was too effective at clearing out infantry as I left Terminus a landing spot to charge Zerkova and splat her. |
9 | 8 | David | Minions | Incursion | Won, Assassination | Butcher butchered Carver. |
10 | 7 | Jeffrey | Cygnar | Incursion | Won, Assassination | Butcher cleaved Stryker 1 in twain with a single thwack. No feat needed. |

On the Saturday evening I participated in an IKRPG dungeon crawl with a bunch of chaps that I once again forgot to make a note of their names (though the character names were Rudd, Deckard, Tori and someone else….). This was immense fun, involving my Menite priest being very happy with the idea of setting both friend and foe on fire in the hope of killing the final boss. After all, Menoth fire cleanses and only the undeserving will truly burn…
Day 3:
Game | List Used | Opponent Name | Opponent Faction | Scenario | Win/Loss | Notes |
11 | 1 | James | Mercenaries | N/A | Win, Assassination | Vlad teased Ashlynn into an assassination attempt (which she failed), Vlad then cast Martial Paragon and Hand of Fate on himself to put her down, but she Tough’d. Drago wanders over (taking a free strike that ensured both arms were crippled) and flailed at her until she failed a tough roll. |
12 | See below | Tom and Rob | Retribution of Scyrah and Menoth | Two Fronts | Win, Assassination | Magnus’s Renegade’s Obliterator Rockets take out Kaelyssa. Butcher moves up and feats to clear the opposing Zone (killing the objective), but ends up on 0 camp infront of Reznik (use it or lose it!). Butcher got turned into a Wrack, while 1 Great Bear smashes Reznik down to 4 boxes, and the job is completed by a Renegade who lucked out with a Crit: Shred (Thank Morrow for Sustained Attack!). |

My list for the final game (25 points per player) was:
Butcher 3 + War Argus
Ruin
Manhunter
Widowmaker Marksman
Doom Reavers
Great Bears
Greylord Ternion
This gave me a grand total of 59 Iron Arena points (+4 for game 12 which was not reported due to there being no more prizes to spend them on). Had I reached 50 points earlier in the weekend, I would have been looking to get the below piece of art – the last of which got snapped up by my opponent from Game 4.
Despite the setback of not getting enough points in time, I am still more than happy with my haul – 8 D6 (4x Red/Black Iron Arena, and 4x Green “10 Years of Hordes”), 4 PP branded Focus/Fury tokens. I also got a bonus D6 from defeating Jun’s Skorne (game 5), which is very much appreciated. Also shown is the special SmogCon dice and exclusive model for hotel stayers (I got 2 sets of 2 as Jodie was staying too) and Convention Programme.
Thanks once again to Jon Webb and all of the hardworking Press Gangers for running the event, it was greatly appreciated, and I really cannot wait until next year, where I am already fermenting plans for accruing points quicker…
