Mission: League Round 4

Bleh… Been a while since I have written one of these!

After a drought of gaming due to assorted distractions and other priorities, I finally got back to club this week and kicked off my Round 4 experience in the club League! The list I used is below. Round 4 of the League also introduced all of the HSN3 changes, now that the rules PDF and profiles are public.

My opponent, Ryan, won the roll off and chose to go first. As you can see i nthe pic above he had a Grunt fireteam to my right, bunkered down with a Sniper on the tower roof, HMG and FO on the crates to the left, and a Paramedic and one other hiding behind. Behind the green crate on my far left was a Maverick and generic trooper of some description, and on top the the slightly more central green crate, he placed a Minuteman with X-Visor. There was also a camo token just visible, infiltrating up to the half way line on the blue walkway to the left. There were some others, but they didn’t end up doing much.

I placed my Daturazi’s on the far right, with Kornak hiding in the crook of the fencing. My Zerat was up near the white building to my right, and my Vanguard link was placed by the blue building and fans.

Ryan’s hold-back was a Devil Dog team who went in the shadow of the white building, as far forward as they could go. My hold back was the Sogarat who went next to Kornak, looking down the firelane between the white and green building.
Turn 1 (and thereafter…)

Impetuous orders happened with little to remark upon. Then Ryan, unable to pass up a shot at my Sogarat with his sniper, carelessly activated his Fireteam, and was promptly surprised when the Vanguard HMG and Missile Launcher returned fire on the helpless HMG and FO troopers who were visible. Not passing up a firefight, the Sogarat also shot back.

Having left it so long to write up this report, I cannot say with any great conviction the exact order of events or outcomes from here on, but it got messy!

The Grunt fireteam took heavy casualties and eventually broke – at one point later in the game the paramedic tried to shoot syringes at the unconscious sniper on the roof, but ended up doing more harm than good. The Devil dog advanced round the right of the white building, murdering the Zerat, but upon retreating the Anitpode caught a Missile from the Vanguard Fireteam that turned it into a fine mist, and stripped a wound from the daddy dog in the blast.

Advancing my Vanguard towards Ryan’s HVT (which was next to the white building) in an attempt to get my HVT: Espionage classified, I was also able to have my Vanguard hacker mark the cowering Dog Warrior to succeed at my second Classified (can’t recall name, but it was FO or Spotlight an enemy trooper). Once getting in range of the HVT though, my Hacker forgot how to press his buttons, and failed three orders in a row to Spotlight the enemy HVT.

Sensing the clump of Vanguard, the Dog Warrior rounded the building with his next Impetuous order and managed to catch 2 with his Chain Rifle (one of which was my hacker, preventing me from getting my HVT: Espionage classified), but got crit’ed by the HMG in return. Seeing the weakened link, and expecting an opportunity, the Maverick advanced to close with the remaining Vanguards, but ate a plasma shot from my Spec-Ops and was toasted.

Somewhere in all this confusion, Van Zant dropped in laterally to my Sogarat and behind my Daturazi’s. He held out for a turn, but was quickly dispatched by a supressive firing Kornak, but not before he had taken out both Dat’s (one on close combat), and dropped the Sogarat unconscious (who also failed his Automedikit roll…).

The final moments of the game resulted in a mad rush for secure the HVT (both were placed within ZoC of each other), but in this the Morats were victorious. Anyat’s Climbing Plus allowed her to flank a defending Grunt and remove him from existence allowing the tenacious monkeys to suceed.

Final scores were 7 OP – 5 OP to me, netting me 2 TP for the League table.
